October 2024: The Crow Show for A1 members
November 2024 Members' group show at The RED Gallery in Knoxville's Old City!
Yes, we are having a members show this November at the RED Gallery on Jackson Avenue in Knoxville’s Old City, the same excellent venue where we had our show last November. In addition to opening on first friday November 1, the show will also be open on Friday evenings through November (with possible exception of November 29).
Theme: the theme of the show (as voted on by members at the annual members’ meeting in February) is “Objects Lost and/or Found.” We encourage members to interpret (or ignore?) this theme creatively.
Media: open to all media. If we receive a lot of 2D work we might display it "gallery style" with some works stacked above each other. The gallery is not well suited for large floor-mounted 3D work but can accommodate 3D work that fits on 12 x 12 pedestals. The gallery has high ceilings which might allow for interesting display of suspended work such as flags or banners.
Submittal of work: Members may submit up to three pieces; all members who submit art will have at least one piece in the show. To allow planning, we are using an online submittal process (Google forms, as was used last year) with entries due here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1tNlyu0mAZErCIDQFfuDxKvOEsq7_uinPBl4kNHOxXIA/edit by October 5.
Collaboration / "Swap": A1 has a tradition of encouraging collaborative art. If you would consider being teamed at random with another A1 member to produce a joint work for this show, please send us a note – sooner rather than later – at [email protected] and we will put your name in a hat and draw a name for you to work with. You may collaborate in any way you agree upon -- for example, collaborating on one piece, or each of you producing one piece independently and then providing it to your partner to produce a piece in response (resulting in two diptychs). Your collaboration might involve a "swap" in which you and your partner agree to let the other keep a piece you produce.
Remember that membership in A1 is on an annual basis. If you have not yet joined for 2024, you may do so here https://www.a1labarts.com/join-a1labarts.html
